The Farmers Co-op is excited to announce that Scott Walker has been hired as the new Co-op Manager. Jim Miller, who has been the Co-op Manager for the past 44 years is confident that Scott will be a great leader for the Co-op. Jim acknowledged, “Scott has the leadership and business skills to take the Co-op to the next level.”
Scott Walker hails from the small town of Cooperstown, N.D. Much like Jim, Scott worked at a
convenience store throughout his schooling. He moved up to the manager position during college and spent nearly 25 years since then in managerial roles in similar positions, away from and back in Cooperstown. Most recently he was a manager in East Grand Forks.
Scott has always been drawn back to the small town atmosphere. Noticing an opening in at the Farmers Co-op in Renville, he and his fiancee, Rhonda, took a road trip to see if the area was right for them. The rural communities and small town life were exactly what they were looking for. Scott and Rhonda are currently residing on a farmstead outside of Renville.
After coming out as the front runner of the lengthy interview process, Walker started in his manager role June 1 and will be working out of the downtown Renville location. “It takes hard work, passion and commitment to build on what Jim built here,” said Scott. “I plan to take care of the community in the same way.” The long 90-year history of the Co-op makes it a staple for the communities of Renville, Olivia, Danube, and Redwood Falls,
Currently, Scott is getting to know the area, the stores, employees, and customers. He is people-oriented and looks forward to helping the Farmers Co-op meet the needs of the customers in the area. Jim Miller will be working at the Co-op through the end of June to help make the transition with the new manager and his team as smooth and efficient as possible.
Scott has already spent some time meeting with local businesses and looks forward to visiting with local farmers too. Scott would love to meet more people in the community, and invites people to stop into the downtown Cenex location to say, “Hello!”.
We wish both, Jim Miller, with his retirement, and Scott Walker, in his new position as Manager at the Farmers Co-op the best of luck in their new adventures!
